FAQ: Where are the math videos? If your district provides IM math to you and your classroom through ILC – the videos are included in the online component. They are with the lessons.

If you use Kendall Hunt to access IM math lessons, the videos are not included. This is the response I received from the help desk: “The free, digital open education resource (OER) with our partner Kendall Hunt includes all the content developed by our authoring team as does the Imagine Learning platform. The videos that you described were created by the Imagine Learning team. Therefore, those videos are an enhancement for ILC users as part of their curriculum subscription, and are not included in the free digital OER curriculum.”

Using the ILC IM Math™ videos in your classroom is a great way to bring the numbers on the page to life in real world situations. The videos can be used to integrate other subject matter into our math lessons – as well as help students relate the math they are doing future careers or everyday skills.
Math Sparkz provides worksheets in every 3rd and 4th Grade unit packet that students can use with the corresponding video. I found that having a worksheet that correlated to the video made the activity more engaging for my students.
Every time I show them in my classroom, new curiosity and engagement is sparked in the math task at hand.
IM 3rd Grade Math™ Unit 2 introduces students to area and multiplication. After watching the video Sold Out Shows, third graders use the grid paper in their Math Sparkz packet to design their own stadium, building or floor plan. They are then asked to name and calculate the area of different portions of their space.

Some other examples of bringing history, geography and real-world practicality in the classroom with the videos are:
- IM Grade 4 Math™ Unit 6 video Amundsen’s Journey teaches us about the first explorer to ever reach South Pole. Not only is it a history and geography lesson, the video has students apply the unit’s math focus – multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers – to estimate supplies needed for the length of the journey.
- IM Grade 3 Math™ Unit 4 takes us to the Netherlands in Cheese Markets. Students relate division to multiplication – while learning about how many quarts of milk it takes to make different amounts of cheese – and then how this cheese is carried around a traditional market.
- IM Grade 4 Math™ Unit 2 is all about fraction equivalence and comparison. The corresponding math video Solar Cars takes us to Australia to use fractions to calculate the route that competitors take through the outback every year in the World Solar Challenge.
